Hearing Loss: Understanding the Causes and Consequences
Tumblr media
Hearing loss is a common and often debilitating condition that affects millions of people around the world. It occurs when there is damage to the inner ear, the auditory nerve, or other parts of the ear that are responsible for transmitting sound to the brain.
Hearing Loss Causes
There are many different causes of hearing loss, including genetics, aging, exposure to loud noise, infections, and certain medications. People with a family history of hearing loss are more likely to experience it themselves, and it is also more common in older individuals. Noise exposure is a common cause of hearing loss, especially among people who work in noisy environments or listen to loud music.
Hearing loss can have a profound impact on a person's life. It can make it difficult to understand speech and follow conversations, especially in noisy environments. This can lead to social isolation, depression, and difficulty communicating with friends and family. It can also affect a person's ability to work, as they may struggle to understand instructions and collaborate with colleagues.
There are several types of hearing loss, including conductive hearing loss, sensorineural hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss. Conductive hearing loss occurs when there is a problem with the outer or middle ear, such as fluid buildup or damage to the eardrum. Sensorineural hearing loss occurs when there is damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve. Mixed hearing loss is a combination of both.
Treatment for hearing loss depends on the cause and type of hearing loss. In some cases, it can be treated with surgery or medication. In other cases, hearing aids or cochlear implants may be recommended to improve hearing.
Preventing hearing loss is important to ensure that it doesn't become a problem in the future. This means avoiding loud noise, wearing ear protection when working in noisy environments, and protecting your hearing from damage caused by medications or other harmful substances. Additionally, regular hearing tests can help detect hearing loss early and allow for prompt treatment.
In conclusion, hearing loss is a widespread and often debilitating condition that can have a significant impact on a person's life. Understanding the causes and consequences of hearing loss is crucial to preventing and treating it effectively. If you or someone you know is experiencing hearing loss, it is important to seek help from a healthcare provider as soon as possible.

faint idea dump. alternative universe where both wukong and the destined one exist at the same time.
since destined one doesn't talk nearly as much, modern!reader during their journey to do something decided to start teaching him sign language to communicate if he doesn't feel like talking, and wukong doesn't enjoy it too much because it gives reader a reason to touch the destined one a lot

I won't lie, I'm a bit disappointed in Max Verstappen fans after Lando's win yesterday. A lot of people are discrediting Lando and McLaren in general. The fact of the matter is that Lando deserved that win.
Yes, it was a lucky safety car. But I think you all are forgetting Max's first win came in part because the Mercedes drivers took each other out. Are you now arguing that Max is a shit driver that doesn't deserve that win because it involved luck there too?
Lando is a fantastic driver and this win is long overdue. It might make you feel better to discuss what ifs but even if we do, that doesn't change the results, and it's honestly just incredibly disrespectful of the work the McLaren engineers put into the upgrades, the efforts of the strategists, and the solid drive that Lando put in.

A Quick Note on Death and Therianthropy
TW: mentions of animal death. Nothing super graphic but I thought I would make it as obvious as I can.
I wish there were more discussion about therianthropic origins that are outside of the spiritual/psychological/physical ā€¦ like there are so many ways to be a therian or become one that I donā€™t see discussed at all. I also donā€™t know if thereā€™s any discussion being had on how pet death may affect therianthropy, which is most of what I want to talk about here.
For example, my scenthound dog theriotype is specifically of emotional origin. I had never heard of anyone describing their experience this way , and I started using this term for myself nearly a year ago because calling my dog type just ā€œpsychologicalā€ didnā€™t feel right. I also think there may be a past life connected to this type as well, but I feel less focused on that part
This theriotype specifically came from my childhood dog and her death. She was a boxer beagle mix. Her death is integral to my identity because it happened right around the time I was questioning being a Vizsla dog, and it changed my perception of that theriotype forever. I was no longer a Vizsla but rather a mixed/uncertain breed of scenthound dog, and how I view myself as this theriotype has permanently changed to look more like my childhood dog. Dark masking, occasionally white markings, black claws against tan pawsā€¦ quite the opposite of the uniform color of the Vizsla, who is a golden rust from nose to claw.
While I still do feel connected to Vizslas, especially the general short haired dog with floppy ears look and their behaviors, they just arenā€™t quite *me* anymore because of this.
I feel like pet death, or even just death in general is overlooked as a source of therianthropy or certain theriotypesā€¦ I think ultimately it comes from a place of deep empathy, which is why I felt ā€œemotional kinā€ was more accurate to my experience than ā€œpsychological kinā€. Thinking about this really makes me wonder how many experiences and awakenings arenā€™t talked about that include death in some way. Are there bovine therians who awakened as such after seeing one die on a farm? Are there deer therians who saw one of their own being hunted and realized then that they were one? Are there therians who found their kintype after being exposed to taxidermy of them? And, are there others like me who witnessed the death of their beloved nonhuman family member and watched their identity shift right before their eyes? What about therians with family and close friends who are therians? When they die, will they feel the sudden pull to ā€œadoptā€ the theriotypes of their loved ones, so that a part of them is always there? So many questions, and I fear not enough research or discussion to answer them. Itā€™s interesting to think about, at the very least.

TW vent abt some ableist shit i got hit with today (maybe?) i need advice
This is a genuine question to every disabled person on this app cause idk if i'm the one going insane, but basically i was sitting at lunch with some friends today, and this other girl i didn't know (jessica for the sake of online privacy) started talking to me.
Then she pointed out my hearing aids (signa, they're pretty discrete but are visible) and asked about them.
So i explained my disease and my nervous damage and whatnot... (i'm hard of hearing, as in 80% loss in my left ear, 70% in the other)
She then told me she related to me, and for a second i genuinely thought she was either deaf or hoh... BITCH I WAS SO WRONG
She told me that during this summer she went scuba diving and water got stuck behind her eardrum. (she has no issues now, she recovered 100%)
So she knew how i felt, she then went on a tangent about how hard it is to lose your hearing.
???
Is it wrong that this pisses me off??? Like you can't relate to me?? You barely understand what it's like to lose you hearing.
So uh yeah, this feels so weird to say to someone who's disabled, like idk, to me it feels like telling someone who's lost a leg that you relate to them bc you broke your leg.
Yeah anyways, am i being dramatic? Cause i feel like i'm justified but it could be coming from a nice place?

We all know that Steve and Robin are both fluent in Italian and Robin learns ASL and then teaches Steve so they have two secret languages to gossip and talk crap in.
But what about the fact that Argyle, who canā€™t keep a secret to save his life, is fluent in Spanish so he can understand the general idea of what they say in Italian? And what about Dustin and Will who are both passable in ASL and are teaching the other Party members at an impressive rate?
Obviously Robin and Steve are thrilled at these developments, but they need a way to communicate just between the two of them (as all best friends do). How are they going to talk about hot girls in front of the others? How are they supposed to commentate on relationship drama in the group in real time? (Does Mike know heā€™s in love with Will yet? No, but I think Max and El are beginning to suspect.) How are they supposed to keep Operation Fettuccine a secret until the big reveal? (They throw a going away party for themselves but they donā€™t tell anyone why until the very end of the night. They explain that theyā€™re going to Italy for the summer and then run out the door into Steveā€™s already packed car before anyone can ask any questions.)
The solution, my friends, is so simple and yet, so brilliant. Together, Steve and Robin learn Italian Sign Language

So my primary care doctor has known for almost a year that I might have a brain aneurysm and did nothing about it until I forced his hand to refer me to a new doctor and now I need an MRI like. Almost Immediately. Love when doctors don't listen to me about things that require me to have major surgery until it's almost too late
